Customs officers and border police at the Kalotina border crossing point uncovered a large quantity of contraband cigarettes hidden in a cargo van arriving from Serbia to Bulgaria. The driver, a citizen of North Macedonia, has been detained, and pre-trial proceedings have been initiated in the case.

On June 19 around 20:50 at the Kalotina border checkpoint, a cargo minibus with Swiss registration, traveling from Serbia to Bulgaria, arrived for entry. The driver, a 52-year-old citizen of North Macedonia, stated that he was transporting laminate and a table from Switzerland. On the initiative of the on-duty border police, a joint inspection with customs officers was carried out.

In the cargo compartment of the minibus, it was found that the packages contained only the top and bottom sheets of laminate, while the remaining boards were cut and a large quantity of cigarette boxes with Macedonian excise stamps and "Duty Free" stamps were found in the formed cavity. A dining table was also found in the van, and upon disassembly, a large quantity of cigarette boxes were also found in its base. The total quantity of contraband cigarettes was 120,660 pieces.

The driver was detained, and pre-trial proceedings were initiated in the Kalotina Border Police Unit.
