Heroic dog protects child after a 6-kilometer trek in the mountains

A happy ending to the search for a missing young boy in the Pernik region. The alert was raised shortly before 10 a.m. after the child left his home, following the family dog.

"The dog stayed by the child's side and protected him until the rescue teams arrived," shared Senior Commissioner Pavel Mlekanov.

Over 80 people joined the large-scale operation, including:

  • Ministry of Interior and Border Police officers
  • Local volunteers and residents
  • Teams with drones and tracking dogs

After information directed the teams to the village of Beraintsi, a border police officer found the boy in a difficult-to-reach area. It was determined that the child had traveled over 6 kilometers through rugged terrain. After a medical examination, the boy was returned unharmed to his parents.
