Bulgaria's organised crime police (GDBOP) are carrying out a raid in Kostinbrod today over the misuse of public procurement money in the water and sewerage sector.

Investigators say they found expensive items, cash and luxury houses at the site. The raid follows information that large sums were siphoned off from the contracts.

According to preliminary information, the raid continues the so-called Burgas water utility affair. In that case, DPS regional chairman Hristo Shirokov was detained and charged.

Updated (14.10, 16:22): Former DPS MP Iliya Iliev is among those detained in the raid in Kostinbrod, local media reported. Iliev sat in the 43rd National Assembly, elected from the party's list in Yambol. Large sums of money were also found in the raid. In 2017, the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office sent an indictment against him to court in a separate case over the siphoning of funds from the National Railway Infrastructure Company.
