The maternity ward at Burgas University Hospital now has two family rooms, where a mother can stay with her baby and the father or another relative from the first days after birth, the hospital said.

A night in the room costs €75, and a companion pays another €17.20.

No advance booking is needed. Families ask ward staff for a family room when they are admitted or right after the birth. They get one if a room is free at that moment.

Each room is like a small apartment. It has a baby changing area, a bed for the mother, a separate bed for the father or companion, a sofa and small table for resting, as well as air conditioning, a TV and a fridge. The hospital says the aim is to combine medical care with the comfort of home.

According to the hospital, the rooms give more space, comfort and privacy. A close relative supports the mother in the first hours and days after birth, and the father can share the joy and take part in the baby's first care.

Expectant parents can see the rooms on the ward's open days, held every Wednesday. The tour starts at 1pm at the ward entrance, to the right of the Surgical Building, along the overpass. On the tour, parents learn how the ward works and can ask questions about giving birth.
