Two cars crashed today at around 4pm on the Aytos Pass, just before the turn-off for Ruen towards Daskotna. Traffic is slow in the area, and police are on scene directing cars around the wreck.

Both vehicles are badly crushed. One was hit from behind — its trunk is bent upward and the rear bumper has fallen off. The other veered off the road and has heavy damage to the front.

Debris from both cars is scattered across the road, and one of them has stopped right next to the open lane. A crowd has gathered at the scene.

There is no confirmed word yet on any injuries or how badly anyone was hurt. Police believe the crash may have been caused by one driver following too close, but they have not yet confirmed the cause.

This stretch of road has seen several serious crashes in recent years. It was shut in July 2024 after a crash between the Ruen turn-off and the village of Yabalchevo, which sent several ambulances to the scene.
