The bodies were found near the Tazha Waterfall and below Kom Peak. According to the Mountain Rescue Service, the cases are not related to hiking accidents.

Two men were found dead in different areas of the Balkan Mountains over the past 24 hours. The Mountain Rescue Service of the Bulgarian Red Cross reported that there is no evidence that death in either case resulted from a hiking accident.

The body of a 60-year-old man was discovered in the area of the Tazha Waterfall. A medical helicopter was dispatched to the scene, but the team could only confirm the death. The body was subsequently transported on foot by mountain rescuers.

The other case occurred in an area below Kom Peak. A 51-year-old tourist from Silistra was found there. Teams from the General Directorate for Fire Safety and Population Protection, the Mountain Rescue Service, and officers from the Berkovitsa District Police Department worked on the report.

The tourist felt ill during a break

The incident below Kom Peak occurred on August 19 around 2:38 p.m. The man was climbing the peak with an acquaintance, also from the Silistra region.

During a break, the tourist felt ill and lost consciousness. Rescuers and police who arrived at the scene confirmed his death.

During the initial examination, no visible signs of violence were found on the body. It was transported to the hospital in Montana, where an autopsy will be performed.

Pre-trial proceedings have been initiated in the case. Officers from the Berkovitsa District Police Department are clarifying the exact causes of death.

Tips for tourists

The Mountain Rescue Service indicated that hiking conditions today are very good but urged people to approach treks responsibly.

Rescuers recommend that tourists allow enough time for their chosen route, carry water, a charged phone, and a spare battery. It is advisable not to hike alone in the mountains, and that a close contact be informed of the route, expected arrival time, and current location.
