Bulgaria has confirmed its first case of the A(H1N1)pdm09 flu virus this season (2026-2027), the National Centre of Infectious and Parasitic Diseases (NCIPD) said.

The national reference laboratory for flu and acute respiratory infections found the virus with a real-time PCR test on a nose and throat swab from a female patient. She has been admitted to the Prof. Ivan Kirov Specialised Hospital for Infectious and Parasitic Diseases in Sofia. A few days earlier, the same laboratory confirmed the season's first case of A(H3N2) flu virus.

Nasal flu vaccines for children, given as a spray in the nose, have already arrived. Vaccinations with them began on 5 October.

The Bulgarian Drug Agency said 770,000 doses of flu vaccine will be delivered for the 2026/2027 season. A day earlier, the Ministry of Health said 70,000 doses are due in November for the open market.
