Chief State Health Inspector Assoc. Prof. Angel Kunchev criticized a statement made by Minister of Health Katya Ivkova on the show "Face to Face." In a statement published on Facebook, he pointed out that the minister's words were intended to discredit his professional standing.

On air, Ivkova stated that Kunchev had voluntarily submitted his resignation because he had become eligible for a pension. She added that reports had been received regarding his possible influence on a tender procedure for mosquito population control. "I have forwarded the received report to the competent authorities," the minister clarified. Ivkova indicated that there were suspicions of pressure being exerted on Ministry of Health employees during the determination of criteria for participants in the procurement process.

In response, Assoc. Prof. Kunchev stated that he had not been contacted by the Ministry of Interior or judicial authorities in connection with this case. He denied participating in the preparation of documentation or the evaluation of bids. "I have not participated in any way in the preparation of documentation, I have not evaluated bids, I do not know who the members of the committee were, and I have had and currently have no authority regarding the conduct of this public procurement," the inspector emphasized.

Regarding the criticism concerning a contract with the National Center of Infectious and Parasitic Diseases (NCIPD), he clarified that it is a publicly known fact. "I am employed at 0.25 full-time equivalent as an associate professor of epidemiology with a salary of about 360 euros, and I carry out teaching activities. This remuneration is declared and publicly known through the filings that I am required to submit annually," Kunchev added.
