The highest diplomatic representative of North Macedonia in Bulgaria, Agneza Rusi Popovska, was summoned to a meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where the head of the Directorate for European Affairs, Jordan Parvanov, handed over an official protest. In it, the Bulgarian side expresses serious concern and discontent with a series of incidents related to the desecration of Bulgarian national symbols on the territory of the neighboring country.
On May 4, 2025, after the laying of wreaths on the grave of Goce Delchev in the "St. Spas" church in Skopje, it was found that only the Bulgarian flag among the many wreaths had been removed. Additionally, an act of vandalism was committed on a monument-erratic, donated by Bulgaria, in the Park of Francophonie in the capital of North Macedonia.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria categorically condemns these hostile actions and regrets that such unacceptable encroachments have also been recorded in the past. The lack of an adequate response from the competent authorities in Skopje, according to the Bulgarian side, contributes to the transformation of these manifestations of an anti-Bulgarian basis into a sustainable trend.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bulgaria expects the authorities of North Macedonia to take the necessary steps to identify the perpetrators, punish them, and immediately restore the monument-erratic to its authentic form.
