With a focus on young people and their active participation, the Municipality of Burgas is joining forces with various partners to demonstrate how everyday transport choices change the urban environment. Under the motto "Mobility for All Generations," a variety of educational games, creative tasks, and practical activities are being implemented, challenging children and youth to think about safety, accessibility, and the future of mobility. These initiatives are being carried out as part of the project "Implementing Municipal Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans for the Transition to a Climate-Neutral and Climate-Resilient Society" (LIFE22-IPC-BG-LIFE-SIP CLIMA-SUMP), funded by the European Union's LIFE program.

Although the European Mobility Week traditionally focuses on the period from September 16 to 22, Burgas is expanding the scope of its campaign significantly. Residents and guests of the city will be able to take part in events that start as early as September 12 and continue until October 4. The goal is to encourage a responsible attitude toward nature, a healthy lifestyle, and safe road behavior, with an appropriate form of engagement planned for every age group.

Chronological Event Schedule

  • September 12, 10:30 AM – The NGO "Green Strandja" is organizing a hike with waste sorting along the route from Tvarditsa village to Lale Bair.
  • September 13, 08:00 AM – "Burgas Run 2026": the ninth edition of the popular sports event with distances of 5, 10, and 21 km, with the start and finish line in front of the NHK Cultural Center.
  • September 17, 10:30 AM – "Ran Bosilek" Kindergarten is hosting the "Mobility Agents" initiative, focused on eco-detectives and practical safety routes.
  • September 18, 10:30 AM – A series of activities: "Nadezhda" Kindergarten ("I am a Little Traffic Police Officer"), "Hans Christian Andersen" Kindergarten (exhibition "Transport Through the Generations"), and "Ran Bosilek" Kindergarten (creative workshop "My Favorite Vehicle").
  • September 18, 10:30 AM – Practical training: Professional High School of Transport (together with "Zlatna Ribka" Kindergarten), "St. St. Cyril and Methodius" Secondary School (workshop "Designing the Street of the Future"), "Elin Pelin" Primary School (creating a safe route map), and "Petko Rachev Slaveykov" Primary School (interactive journey "Mobile Burgas – Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow").
  • September 18, 25, and October 2 – "Bike Friday" campaign in Burgas schools, where participants track the kilometers covered and emissions saved via the WeRide.Today app.
  • September 25, 10:30 AM – "BikeCode = Skills + Rules + Nature" at the Youth Cultural Center (YCC) – Burgas, dedicated to responsible cycling.
  • September 26, 09:00 AM–01:00 PM – "A Look Inside": an open house day at the "Burgasbus" bus depot.
  • October 4, 01:00 PM–04:00 PM – Final event at the small parking lot of the "St. Anastasia" Children's Hospital, welcoming the international COP31 Bike Ride relay, aimed at the climate conference in Antalya.

After the official week concludes, the events will continue to promote public transport and cycling culture. The culmination on October 4 is particularly significant, as Burgas will host the meeting of the two routes of the international bicycle relay, which crosses more than 20 countries and three continents on its way to the climate conference in Antalya. The entire program serves as an invitation to citizens to adopt a more active and sustainable lifestyle.
