Detained Valuables: Criminal Police in Burgas Seize Items of Historical Value
Burgas - Officers from the "Criminal Police" department in Burgas have discovered and seized numerous items bearing the hallmarks of cultural and historical values, following two separate investigations, announced the Regional Directorate (RD) of the Ministry of Interior in Burgas. The discoveries, which are the subject of an investigation, shed light on potential trafficking of artifacts from the region.
The first check, conducted yesterday, focused on a private home located on "Manastirska" Street in Pomorie. The apartment, inhabited by a 77-year-old man, became the scene of operational actions. During the search of the property, law enforcement officers found three binders and an envelope containing a total of 761 coins. The coins, made of different metal, were distinguished by different sizes and shapes. According to preliminary data, the coins are from the ancient and medieval periods, which suggests significant historical value. They have been seized and handed over for expert examination, which will establish their authenticity and origin. The owner of the property has been detained for up to 24 hours.
On the same day, a second check was carried out in a private home in the Pomorie village of Prosenik. The resident of the apartment, a 62-year-old local resident, also came under the police's scope. During this inspection, a yatagan with a bone handle and a scabbard were discovered and seized. In addition, the authorities came across five coins of different shapes and diameters, a ring with a monogram, three cutting tools of different sizes, a fragment of ceramics, two clay vessels of the "pithos" type, the base of a stone column, and a millstone. The total quantity and diversity of the discovered items suggest a potential link to the trade in antiques or the presence of illegal storage of cultural and historical values.
In all cases, pre-trial proceedings have been initiated, which will establish the origin of the discovered items and their possible connection with criminal activity.
