BSP Chairman Krum Zarkov announced that the party has officially confirmed its support for the candidacy of Iliana Iotova for President of Bulgaria. The decision was made unanimously during a meeting of the party's National Council, and according to Zarkov, there was not a single vote "against" or "abstention" during the voting process.
With the goal of achieving maximum mobilization in the campaign, the party has established a national election headquarters to assist Iliana Iotova in her election bid. Zarkov emphasized that reinforcements have also been made to the party's Executive Bureau so that the organization can engage as actively as possible in the upcoming work.
The party has already appointed a special contact group to coordinate with Iliana Iotova and her team. "We will enter into discussions regarding who Iotova proposes as vice president. They must begin immediately, and we are ready for them," commented Krum Zarkov, noting that official meetings on the topic will start as early as tomorrow.
The BSP Chairman expressed full confidence in Iotova's political experience in forming a balanced composition for the initiative committee. Zarkov noted that he expects her to choose a person who will give substance to the institution of the vice president, as it is not merely a deputy to the head of state, but an independent institution to which the president delegates important powers.
Media reports indicate that Iliana Iotova announced her candidacy on July 24, stating that she would be nominated by an initiative committee. Subsequently, the BSP leader confirmed the party's support following a meeting of the Executive Bureau. Iliana Iotova clarified that the name of the vice-presidential candidate will be announced next week, and the establishment of the initiative committee will take place on September 8, at which time the name of its chairperson will also be revealed.
