The government must ask Russia for guarantees that attacks in Bulgaria's exclusive economic zone will stop, Ivaylo Mirchev, co-leader of "Yes, Bulgaria", told reporters. He says the ruling parties are keeping their heads down in front of Moscow.
At the latest Consultative Council on National Security, Democratic Bulgaria asked for the Russian ambassador to be summoned and handed a note. Mirchev added that Bulgaria should also seek such a pledge from Russia through its allies.
He says the first step is for Bulgaria to stop hiding, send a note and demand a clear commitment. "Instead, we have pulled out of every format - the Coalition of the Willing, anti-drone defence, every possible format - we left and we are hiding," Mirchev said.
He claims Russia will keep mocking Bulgaria, because that is what always happens when a country keeps its head down, shows no spine and does not stand up for its national interest. The current government's hiding leads to humiliation and tells Moscow it can attack and harass Bulgaria without limits, the Democratic Bulgaria co-leader said.
"It must be clear that neither Radev nor Yotova can defend the country. Defending the country does not mean hiding," he said.
Mirchev also said no one else has a reason to attack Bulgaria, and Ukraine has no reason to sink Ukrainian ships with Ukrainian crews, which he says is clear to everyone.
He said Romania carried out an investigation that showed the attacks were Russian, while in Bulgaria there is still no answer on whether the drones are Russian, Pakistani or Madagascan.
