Police seized almost 2kg of heroin during a search of a house in the village of Polenitsa near Sandanski. A 42-year-old local man has been arrested.

Detectives from the Sandanski police station entered the house on October 3 as part of an operation targeting drug possession and dealing. On the second floor, where the man lives, they found four packets of a hard, pressed brown substance. A field test showed it was heroin, and the packets weigh about 1,980 grams in total.

Police also took an electronic scale and cash from the house. The man is being held for 24 hours under a detention order, and prosecutors have opened a pre-trial case against him under Article 354a, paragraph 1 of the criminal code.

The Blagoevgrad district prosecutor's office is overseeing the investigation.
