Free tuberculosis screenings across the country in June 2025.

Free tuberculosis consultations will be held from June 16 to June 20, 2025 in the regions of Blagoevgrad, Burgas, Veliko Tarnovo, Vidin, Vratsa, Gabrovo, Dobrich, Kyustendil, Troyan, Montana, Pazardzhik, Pernik, Pleven, Plovdiv, Razgrad, Sliven, Sofia-region, Stara Zagora, Targovishte, Haskovo, Shumen and Yambol. In the Ruse region, they will start on June 16 and continue until June 27, and in the Kardzhali and Silistra regions - from June 23 to June 27, 2025.

The campaign is organized jointly by the Ministry of Health, the medical institutions for the treatment of pneumo-phthisiatric diseases, the regional health inspectorates, health mediators, the Bulgarian Red Cross and the municipalities. It has proven its effectiveness in increasing public awareness, better detection of tuberculosis cases and latent tuberculosis infection, as well as effective prevention of the disease in the country.

During the "Open Doors Week", anyone who wishes can receive an assessment of the risk of tuberculosis through a questionnaire and consultations. Persons at risk will be referred for additional examinations and tests. If cases of tuberculosis are detected, immediate measures will be taken for hospitalization and treatment to break the chain of transmission of the infection.

During the period 2022-2024, within the framework of this campaign, 14,689 people were surveyed, with 176 of them referred for treatment, and 412 found with latent tuberculosis infection and covered by chemoprophylaxis. At the same time, a persistent trend of decrease in the incidence of tuberculosis is observed in Bulgaria - from 23.2 per 100,000 population in 2014 to 13.7 per 100,000 in 2024.

The diagnosis, treatment and prevention of tuberculosis in Bulgaria are free, regardless of the health insurance status of the citizens. The Ministry of Health annually provides financial resources for the purchase of the necessary medicines, diagnostics and consumables, as well as for the financing of hospitals providing tuberculosis treatment.
