Part of a rooftop terrace and a second-floor balcony broke off and fell from an apartment block in the Atsaleni district of Heraklion, on the Greek island of Crete. It happened at about 2am.

Chunks of concrete and bricks crashed down the building and reached the ground floor. On the way, the debris tore the awning on the first floor.

Residents woke to a loud bang and tried to work out what was happening.
