Bulgaria's Social Assistance Agency has paid out €13,531,327 in heating aid for the 2026–2027 season, it said on its website.

The deadline for applications fell on a non-working day, so the agency took documents until 2 November. Social assistance offices across Bulgaria received 430,517 application forms.

The agency has issued 356,506 orders granting aid and turned down 50,949 applications. Another 22,889 are still being processed.

The aid is €64.39 a month, set by an order of the labour and social policy minister. From 1 November 2026 to 31 March 2027 it adds up to €321.95.

The money is paid in two instalments. The first, for November and December, is paid no later than the month after the order granting the aid is issued. The second, for January, February and March, is paid by 31 January next year.

On 24 September 2026, the Council of Ministers decided that the most vulnerable people and families who heat with solid fuel receive the aid in a single payment, in full. This covers Bulgarian citizens and families who named solid fuel on their application and have no income when their eligibility is assessed. The agency identified those who qualify itself. The decision aims to make sure people get heating money on time.

In early October, the agency also began paying €50 in compensation for higher fuel prices, under the programme "Inflation cheque to compensate the most vulnerable groups for rising fuel and basic food prices".
