Shocking antisemitic incident in the heart of Sofia

A group of young neo-Nazis attempted to force their way into a hotel in Sofia on August 2, where Italian Jewish teenagers from Rome and Milan were staying. The incident, during which the attackers chanted "Sieg Heil" and gave Nazi salutes, caused a wide outcry in authoritative Italian media such as Corriere della Sera, RAI News, and ANSA.

"I express my solidarity with the group of young Italian Jews. I condemn this latest act of antisemitism," said Italy's Deputy Prime Minister Antonio Tajani.

Reactions from Italian institutions

• Ignazio La Russa, President of the Italian Senate, described the incident as a "very serious episode" and called on the Bulgarian authorities for a swift investigation.
• Victor Fadlun, President of the Jewish Community in Rome, stated: "Our children are not free to travel around Europe without being exposed to violence."
• The Union of Italian Jewish Communities emphasized that such incidents are recurring with alarming frequency and demanded that the security of Jewish life in the EU be guaranteed.
