Bulgaria needs decisive measures and full transparency to protect itself from foreign interference, insists presidential candidate Andrey Gyurov. In his statement, he emphasizes: "Bulgaria cannot afford inaction and silence. The security of Bulgarian citizens is at stake, and the country's sovereignty requires decisive action, transparency, and uncompromising protection against any foreign interference." It is precisely because of this necessity that he insists the head of state exercise his constitutional powers and immediately convene the Consultative Council on National Security (CCNS), addressing his appeal to the President of the Republic.

The motive for this demand is the recent explosion and subsequent fire at an "Emco" warehouse base located near Gabrovo. Gyurov classifies the event as a "critical threat to national security" and points out that this is the second incident within a short period, following similar destruction that befell a facility belonging to the same company near Tryavna a month ago. According to him, it is a mistake to view these events as separate, episodic accidents.

Andrey Gyurov states the following: "I believe that what is happening in our country should not be viewed as an isolated phenomenon, but in the context of large-scale and coordinated sabotage across Europe." As parallel examples, he points to attacks against logistics centers and military bases in:

  • Poland;
  • Czech Republic;
  • United Kingdom;
  • The Baltic states.
In his list, he also includes previous explosions on our territory, covering enterprises in Lovnidol, Iganovo, Maglizh, and Karnobat.

The political figure highlights the fact that investigations into these cases have been ineffective and have regularly concluded without results. He draws attention to the revelations from 2021, when authorities linked four of these explosions to Russian military intelligence (GRU) and the assassination attempts against businessman Emiliyan Gebrev. "Unfortunately, it was only in 2021 that the Bulgarian authorities officially acknowledged suspicions that four of these explosions were likely the work of officers from Russian military intelligence (GRU), who were also connected to the assassination attempts against businessman Emiliyan Gebrev," commented Gyurov.

From institutions including SANS, the Ministry of Interior, military intelligence, and the executive branch, the presidential candidate expects comprehensive reports during the convened CCNS. He demands information regarding the measures taken to neutralize Russian intelligence networks and thwart sabotage. In addition to an analysis of the vulnerabilities in the security of strategic military industry facilities, Gyurov advocates for the creation of an emergency coordination plan with partners from the Euro-Atlantic community in order to counter acts of sabotage.
