A 25-year-old man from the village of Gyulyovtsa is in intensive care at Burgas University Hospital in a life-threatening condition after his quad bike overturned on the road between Orizare and Gyulyovtsa, Burgas regional police (ODMVR) said.
The crash happened at about 00:20 on Sunday, 11 October. The man was riding a Linhai quad bike with Burgas plates.
Police say initial information suggests he was going too fast for the road conditions and lost control. The quad bike left the road and rolled over beside it. Police have no information that another vehicle was involved.
The man has a fractured skull, a broken right shoulder and three broken ribs. The skull fracture is the most serious injury, and doctors need to watch for possible complications in the head. Because of the broken ribs, they must check whether organs in the chest are damaged.
A day earlier, at about 17:05 on Saturday, 10 October, a 16-year-old boy fell off a bicycle at 4 Industrialna Street in Burgas. Police say he lost control of the bike and fell onto the road. The Interior Ministry gives no other cause.
The boy sought medical help, and doctors found a broken left collarbone. After the examination, his life was not in danger and he was allowed to recover at home.
There is no information on whether the boy was wearing a helmet or other protective gear. Industrialna Street has seen other serious accidents, including a collision between a car and a motorcycle in August 2022, in which two people were taken into intensive care.
In one of two other cases, a 57-year-old cyclist was hurt after he suddenly felt unwell on Todor Alexandrov Boulevard. In the other, a 69-year-old driver flipped his car into a roadside ditch near Ravadinovo. Both were taken to hospital with no immediate danger to their lives. The injuries in the quad bike crash near Orizare are much more serious, and the police bulletin describes the 25-year-old rider's condition as life-threatening.
