Firefighters tackled 105 fires across Bulgaria in the past 24 hours, and one person died in one of them, the general directorate for fire safety and population protection says. The figures are as of 6am today.

The emergency line took 154 calls in total.

Damage was reported in 18 of the fires — seven in homes, five in cars and one in a forest.

The other 87 fires caused no damage. Of these, 46 burned dry grass, forest litter and bushes, while 37 broke out in rubbish. The remaining four were of a different kind.

Crews also carried out 43 rescue and support operations, ten of them after car crashes.

Six calls turned out to be hoaxes.
