Hansel and Gretel: Children's Ballet at the State Opera - Burgas

The children's ballet "Hansel and Gretel", directed and choreographed by Maria Tabakova, is the newest title that will enrich the repertoire of the State Opera - Burgas. The premiere of the spectacle, promising a magical fairy tale for the youngest viewers, is planned for October 25, the cultural institution in the coastal city announced.

The opera stage will turn into an enchanted forest, in which imagination has no limits – the trees whisper their secrets, cookies start dancing, and good always finds its way home. "Hansel and Gretel", the favorite fairy tale of generations of children, comes to life in a new, ballet way – with music, grace and a lot of imagination. The atmosphere in front of the theater foretells a holiday, and expectations are high. The children present seem restless with excitement.

"For me, this spectacle is like a shared dream – to show the children that courage and love always conquer fear", shares Maria Tabakova, author of the adaptation, choreography and direction, quoted by the opera team.

In the main roles we will see Francesco Russo and Shun Calafune, who will embody the images of Hansel. Gretel will be performed by Daniela Turtumanova-Stoyanova and Nanako Sato. Polina Pasha will give life to Baba Yaga, and Kiril Filipov will transform into the Evil Cat. The performance will also feature Laya Ramon, Raya Chakarova and all the artists from the ballet troupe of the opera. Lina Peeva and Petar Tiholov are assistant directors, and the multimedia is the work of Nikola Peshev.

The project is realized with the support of the director of the opera, Prof. Dr. Alexander Tekeliev. The basis of the spectacle is the idea of recreating the classic fairy tale through the magic of dance, music and multimedia effects. The State Opera - Burgas emphasizes that the new production is part of the institution's consistent work to offer performances for children's audiences, combining ballet with modern stage solutions.
