A strong winter season for Bulgaria in 2025 – among the leading destinations in the EU

According to the statistics, for the period January - April 2025, the total number of registered tourists in accommodation establishments with 10 or more beds in Bulgaria is over 2 million, who realized nearly 4.5 million overnight stays. This represents an increase of 6.4% in the number of tourists and 4.5% in the number of overnight stays compared to the same period in 2024.

Even more impressive is the fact that the number of overnight stays for the first quarter of 2025 is 23.7% higher compared to the same period in 2019 - a year considered a strong tourist season before the pandemic. Eurostat data ranks Bulgaria among the top 10 destinations in the EU in terms of growth in overnight stays for the period January - March 2025 compared to the same period in 2024.

Our country outperforms several countries in Central and Eastern Europe, developing ski tourism, cultural tourism and other types of tourism, in terms of the number of overnight stays for the first quarter of 2025. According to Eurostat, Bulgaria recorded 3.4 million overnight stays, followed by Slovakia with nearly 3.2 million, Serbia with 2.5 million, Croatia with nearly 2.4 million, Albania with 751 thousand, North Macedonia with 314 thousand and Montenegro with 289 thousand overnight stays.
