Tourism Minister Miroslav Borshosh and Chirpan Mayor Ivaylo Kracholov held a meeting, where they discussed specific opportunities for the development of cultural and festival tourism in the city. The focus of the conversation was on investments in tourism infrastructure, camping tourism, and the promotion of Chirpan's cultural heritage.
The main topic of the meeting was the projects for enriching the cultural calendar of Chirpan and preserving and promoting the iconic sites in the city. Special attention was paid to the major festivals organized on the territory of Chirpan Municipality - the Lavender Festival, the Winegrowing Paths Festival, Rock Fest Chirpan, and other unique regional events.
Mayor Ivaylo Kracholov informed the minister that over 50,000 visitors are expected in the city from Chirpan's event calendar for 2025. In response, Minister Borshosh expressed the desire for the Ministry of Tourism to be an active partner of the municipality and to open the new cultural and information tourism center in Chirpan in September 2025.
The minister noted that Chirpan is home to the oldest active monastery in Europe - "St. Atanasiy Veliki"/344 AD/ in the village of Zlatna Livada, which provides a great opportunity and potential for the region to develop pilgrimage tourism.
During the meeting, other opportunities for future partnership in organizing festivals and thematic events that would increase tourist interest in the region and attract new audiences to establish Chirpan as a colorful and attractive destination for year-round tourism were also discussed.
"We will create the fairy tale of Chirpan together," added Tourism Minister Miroslav Borshosh, and assured his host, on the eve of the upcoming International Lavender Festival in the city (20.06 - 22.06.2025), that the Ministry of Tourism will continue to work in support of municipalities that are developing active policies to increase the tourism attractiveness of the regions.
