Burgas and Gdansk are expanding their partnership in the field of tourism.

The mayor of Burgas, Dimitar Nikolov, presented a vision for expanded cooperation between the two sister cities, with a focus on promoting tourism. New initiatives in the field of culture, education and sustainable tourism, as well as opportunities for direct air links and joint promotional campaigns were discussed.

The Mayor of Burgas Dimitar Nikolov presented at a press conference in Gdansk a vision for expanded cooperation between the two twin cities, with a focus on the development of tourism. The event was attended by the Regional Governor of Burgas Vladimir Krumov, representatives of the local authorities, the Director of Lech Walesa Airport Tomasz Kloskowski, Leszek Bona, Vice-Marshal of the Pomeranian Voivodeship, the Ambassador of Bulgaria to Poland H.E. Margarita Ganeva, the Head of STIV Yordan Draganchev, the Head of the National Tourist Representative Office Nikolay Kostov, the Honorary Consul of Bulgaria in Gdansk Jan Strawinski, as well as representatives of tourism organizations and airport operators.

Among the specific initiatives discussed by Mayor Nikolov were the expansion of direct air links between Burgas and Gdansk, year-round campaigns to promote the region, and new joint projects in the fields of culture and education. The possibilities for youth and academic exchange, joint cultural events and festivals, as well as the promotion of natural and historical landmarks from the two regions were also discussed.

Ambassador Ganeva emphasized the importance of inter-institutional dialogue and cultural exchange as a basis for sustainable bilateral relations, noting that the successful cooperation between local authorities is an example of effective diplomacy at the regional level. The hosts from the Pomeranian Voivodeship expressed their readiness to participate in joint initiatives with the Municipality of Burgas in the field of sustainable tourism, digitalization, cultural exchange, and youth programs.

During the visit, Mayor Nikolov and Regional Governor Krumov met with the Mayor of Gdansk Aleksandra Dulkiewicz to discuss new partnership initiatives. The event was organized on the occasion of two years since the beginning of the official cooperation between the administrations of Burgas and Gdansk. During the visit, Nikolov also met with Lech Walesa, the former President of Poland and Nobel Peace Prize laureate.
