Yellow Code for Strong Wind: NIMH Warning for 17 Regions

The National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH) has warned of potentially dangerous meteorological conditions in a significant part of the country, issuing a yellow code for strong southerly winds. The first-degree warning, valid for today, covers a total of 17 regions, according to the map with warning codes published on the NIMH website.

The list of affected areas includes: Varna, Burgas, Veliko Tarnovo, Vratsa, Gabrovo, Dobrich, Kardzhali, Lovech, Montana, Razgrad, Ruse, Sofia-city, Sofia region, Targovishte, Haskovo, Shumen and Yambol. Residents of these regions should be careful due to the expected winds.

Today is expected to be mostly cloudy. Meteorologists predict rain in places, mainly in Western Bulgaria and the Rila-Rhodope region. Around and after noon, the rainfall in most areas will temporarily stop and the cloud cover will break up, promising short periods of sunshine. Before noon, visibility will be reduced in the plains of the country, which may create difficulties for travelers.

In Eastern Bulgaria and north of the mountains, a moderate, temporarily strong and gusty wind from the south-southwest is expected. This combination of atmospheric conditions can lead to discomfort and potential problems.

As for the temperature values, the maximum temperatures today are expected to be mainly between 10 and 15 degrees Celsius. In Eastern Bulgaria and in the areas sensitive to the southerly wind, the temperatures can reach about 20-22 degrees, which is significantly above the seasonal average. In Sofia, around 18 degrees are expected.

In addition, NIMH is issuing a first-degree warning - yellow code - for tomorrow, November 21st. This time, the warning is for strong southwesterly winds in six regions of Eastern and Southeastern Bulgaria, which underlines the ongoing instability of the atmospheric conditions.
