Diplomat and author Yuliyana Antonova-Murata has presented her fifth book, "Sate Sate, Japan", in Old Nessebar. The event was held at the Sochi conference centre and organised by the Yana Laskova community centre.
This report follows our earlier story on the book launches in Burgas and Nessebar, which announced the upcoming meetings with readers.
Antonova-Murata shared her impressions, personal experiences, mishaps and stories from Japan with the audience. She is one of the best-known Bulgarian authors writing about Japanese culture and everyday life.
The book gathers 60 short stories about chance meetings, personal observations and brief nods. In them, the author writes about respect, humility, kindness and attention to others.
"Sate sate" is a Japanese phrase for a short pause, something like "Well then…, where to now?". The idea of the book is that people should slow down, look at what is going on around them and find meaning in the details they usually pass by.
Antonova-Murata is a Bulgarian diplomat of many years' standing. She has served three terms at the Bulgarian embassy in Tokyo, as cultural attaché and as minister plenipotentiary, and holds the title of ambassador of Bulgarian culture around the world. She has lived in Tokyo with her family for more than 20 years.
Before "Sate Sate, Japan", she published "Moshi Moshi, Japan", "Uki Uki, Japan", "San San, Japan" and "Hai Hai, Japan".
