Former Sofia regional governor and current member of the Central Election Commission, Vyara Todeva, is no longer part of the "We Continue the Change" leadership. She announced her decision in a Facebook post, emphasizing that she made it on her own initiative in connection with her new professional commitments.
"The professional commitments I have undertaken as a member of the Central Election Commission require me to dedicate myself entirely to this responsible role, in strict compliance with the law. Therefore, and to avoid any doubts regarding potential incompatibility between the functions I perform, I resigned from the Executive Council of 'We Continue the Change' at yesterday's General Assembly," Todeva wrote.
She clarifies that her decision does not mean withdrawing from the political cause, but on the contrary – it "is not a rejection of the cause," but an "expression of respect for the principles we have always upheld: the rule of law, integrity, and high standards in public life." Todeva remains a member of the party.
The new composition of the Central Election Commission, in which she participates, was appointed by a decree of President Iliana Iotova on June 15. The commission consists of a total of 15 members.
Seven of them, including Chairman Georgi Horozov, are nominations of the parliamentary majority from "Progressive Bulgaria," led by Prime Minister Rumen Radev. This quota also includes Zinaida Zlatanova, Lazarina Haralampieva, Desislava Abrasheva, Ivan Karchev, Yordan Vasilev, and Stoyanka.
Three members are nominated by GERB – Anna Aleksandrova, as well as the previous representatives in the CEC, Georgi Bahanov and Yordanka Gancheva, who also serves as the commission's secretary.
From DPS, Tsvetan Enchev and Ismail Osman, who was elected as deputy chairman, are part of the composition. "Democratic Bulgaria" is represented by Alina Dobreva, and "We Continue the Change" by Vyara Todeva.
