Heavy rain and thunderstorms will hit parts of western and central Bulgaria on Sunday, the forecast says. On the Black Sea coast, mostly in the south, rain will start around midday and continue after that. Outside the mountains, a moderate to strong east wind will blow.

Saturday was expected to be cloudy with rain, mostly in the west and centre, while temperatures on the Black Sea coast were forecast to reach 13-14C.

On Sunday, skies will be cloudy and rain will fall in many places. Day and night temperatures will be almost the same. Lows will be between 6C and 12C, and highs between 9C and 16C. In Sofia it will be about 7C in the morning and about 9C during the day.

On the Black Sea coast, highs will reach 15-16C. The sea is at 16-17C, with waves of about 3 on the sea scale.

It will rain in the mountains, with snow above about 1,600m. Heavy rain is expected over the mountains of western and central Bulgaria, with thunder in places. At 1,200m the temperature will be about 6C, and at 2,000m about 0C. The wind will be moderate from the south-southeast, and strong on the high ground.

On Monday, rain in the southwest will ease for a while and then stop. In eastern Bulgaria it will rain all day, mostly in the northeast. Temperatures will rise by about one degree.

On Tuesday, the rain will get heavier, and heavy rain is more likely in many places. There will be thunder in the Rila-Rhodope region, and snow in the mountains above about 1,500-1,600m. The wind will be moderate to strong from the east, and from the east-northeast in eastern Bulgaria. Lows will stay the same, and highs will be between 7C and 17C.

On Wednesday, rain in western Bulgaria will gradually stop and the wind will weaken. Eastern Bulgaria will stay wet, with a moderate wind from the north-northeast. Temperatures will fall slightly.

On Thursday, there will be almost no rain, the clouds will start to break up, and the wind will die down in the east too. It will get a little cooler, with lows of 2C to 7C and highs of 6C to 11C.
