The specialized operation of the Road Police, carried out jointly with the employees of the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Interior in Veliko Tarnovo, is part of the measures of the Ministry of Interior to combat road accidents. The control authorities used various methods, including "linear control" with unmarked vehicles to monitor aggressive and risky drivers.
The focus of the inspections was the use of seat belts and helmets, the validity of driving and vehicle registration documents, as well as the presence of compulsory third-party liability insurance and technical inspections. Checks were also made for unpaid fines.
During the operation, a total of 249 motor vehicles and 285 drivers and passengers were inspected. 68 violations of traffic rules were found, 34 of which were by drivers of heavy-duty vehicles. In 18 cases, the vehicles were technically defective. Seven drivers were operating vehicles with foreign registration.
The fines imposed on the spot amounted to 2235 levs. A driver who had used drugs was also identified. Five drivers were sanctioned for speeding, with the highest fine being 700 levs for driving at 128 km/h in a 60 km/h zone.
The Road Police urge citizens to report dangerous situations and traffic accidents by calling 112.
