Vazrazhdane is asking the Council of Ministers, in a letter, to explain why Kyrylo Budanov, head of Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky's office, visited Bulgaria. Party leader Kostadin Kostadinov announced the move in the corridors of parliament.

The letter to the Council of Ministers' office will be sent today. Kostadinov also wants to know what was discussed with Budanov.

He said Vazrazhdane learned of the visit yesterday and then checked the information. Nobody told the party, and Kostadinov suspects the other parties were not told either.

The Consultative Council on National Security met at almost the same time as Budanov was in Bulgaria. Kostadinov said it discussed wording to seek an understanding on peace in the Black Sea. That is why, he said, "hosting here the right-hand man of the leader of one of the two warring states is, for me, a sign of very serious political hypocrisy".

Vazrazhdane is a pro-Russia party. Russia has waged a full-scale war on Ukraine since February 2022, while the EU and Bulgaria back Ukraine and the sanctions on Moscow.

Kostadinov believes Bulgaria's security is once again under threat. "I understand why prime minister Rumen Radev is hiding Kyrylo Budanov's visit to Bulgaria: his voters will not like it," he said.
