Mass evacuation in educational institutions following email threats

This morning, institutions in several Bulgarian cities were put under pressure following a series of bomb threats. The threats were received via email at schools in Plovdiv, Karlovo, Asenovgrad, Razgrad, as well as at a kindergarten in Varna.

"The principals acted according to the instructions, notified the 112 emergency line, and the students were evacuated in a timely manner," announced the head of the Regional Education Management (RUO) in Plovdiv, Ivanka Kirkova.

How did the checks proceed?

• All buildings were immediately evacuated until the police inspections were completed.
• Specialized teams from the Ministry of Interior and the fire department carried out full on-site inspections.
• In none of the cases were explosive devices found.

According to official information from the Ministry of Interior, the educational process in the affected institutions has already been restored. It turned out that the threatening emails were sent to old addresses that are not actively used. The Regional Education Management urged all educational structures to use only their official email addresses linked to a secure domain to avoid such communication breaches.

Currently, law enforcement authorities are continuing their work to identify the perpetrators responsible for sending the false alarms.
