"Warm sea, but unstable sky": the forecast for June 12, 2026, according to NIMH

On June 12, 2026, the weather in Burgas and the region will be typically early summer – with sunny to mostly sunny weather for most of the day and an increased probability of cloud development and short-term showers in the afternoon. The expected minimum temperatures in the coastal zone are around 16–18 degrees, and the maximums will reach approximately 24–26 degrees.

The probability of precipitation during the first half of the day remains low, but rain is possible in the afternoon and evening, accompanied in places by thunderstorms. The wind in the morning will be lighter, mainly westerly, with a speed of about 4–10 km/h, while in the noon and afternoon hours it will reorient from the east and strengthen to 12–22 km/h in open areas along the coast. The feeling by the sea will remain pleasantly refreshing.

The sea water temperature along the Southern Black Sea coast, including in the Burgas water area, will be around 21–22 degrees. The sea state is expected to be slight to moderate – approximately 2–3 on the Douglas scale, although it may intensify along open beach strips during temporary wind gusts. In combination with the expected moderate wind, this suggests relatively stable, but not completely risk-free conditions for swimming.

The preliminary assessment for swimming safety at the main beaches in the Burgas region for June 12 is in the yellow flag range. This means that swimming is allowed for most people, but increased caution is recommended – especially for children, the elderly, and less confident swimmers. In more sheltered bays and during the morning, conditions may approach a green flag, while with temporary increases in wind and sea state, as well as during thunderstorms, a red flag may locally need to be raised at the discretion of the lifeguards.

Weather in the country: warm, with a risk of afternoon storms

In the lowland areas of Bulgaria on June 12, 2026, the weather will be mostly sunny to variable cloudiness. Minimum temperatures in the lowlands will be in the range of 15–19 degrees, and daily maximums will reach 25–30 degrees, with the warmest weather expected in parts of the Danubian Plain and the Upper Thracian Plain. Conditions in the mountains will be more dynamic. Before noon, good weather for tourism with relatively high temperatures for the season will prevail, but in the afternoon – especially in the massifs of the Stara Planina, Rila, and the Rhodopes – more intense showers, thunderstorms, and local hail are expected. At an altitude of about 1200 meters, the maximum temperature will be approximately 20–21 degrees, and around 2000 meters – about 13–14 degrees. The wind will be light to moderate, variable in direction, with a tendency toward evening in some northwestern areas to orient from the west-northwest.

Along the Black Sea coast as a whole, maximum air temperatures of about 22–25 degrees are expected, with slightly lower values on the Northern Black Sea coast and slightly higher ones in the south. The sea water temperature will be around 21–22 degrees. Cloudiness will be more significant in the afternoon hours, when temporarily intense precipitation is expected, accompanied by thunderstorms in individual sections of the coast. The wind will be light to moderate, with a prevailing direction of east-southeast and a speed of about 3–7 m/s, but it will strengthen in gusts in storm zones.

In view of the forecasted wind, sea state, and possible thunderstorms, the indicative assessment for swimming safety along the Black Sea coast on a national level also leans towards a yellow flag. In the morning hours, with calmer seas and light wind, conditions in many resorts will be close to a green flag. As the day progresses and with the probability of storms, especially in the afternoon, it is recommended that swimming be done with increased caution, and if local warnings are issued and a red flag is raised by lifeguards – swimming should be discontinued.

Although the forecast indicates a typically warm June day with possible afternoon storms, NIMH and rescue services remind that the flag system on the beaches – green, yellow, and red flag – remains the main guide for real-time swimming safety. It is recommended that tourists and local residents follow current announcements and warnings, especially when planning mountain hikes and swimming in open sea areas.
