Burgas and the region: warm days, with local showers and a relatively cool sea
During the weekend of June 4–5, in Burgas and the region, mostly sunny weather is expected in the morning hours, with variable cloudiness in the afternoon. The maximum air temperature in the city and along the coast will be around 24°–25°, and the minimums in the morning – around 14°–15°. This provides typical early-summer conditions – comfortable for walks and the beach.
The probability of precipitation is low before noon, but in the late afternoon on Saturday and Sunday, it is possible for cumulus-rain clouds to develop with local short showers, mainly over the interior of the region and along the southern coast. The expected rains will be short-lived and no prolonged stormy conditions are expected.
The seawater temperature off the coast of Burgas for the period is around 20°–21°, which means relatively cool, but already pleasant conditions for swimming for most people. The wind will be light to moderate, mostly from the southeast, with speeds around 2–4 m/s, and the sea state – slight to moderate, up to 2 degrees.
In view of the temperatures, the moderate sea state, and potential afternoon thunderstorms, the preliminary safety assessment for swimming in the Burgas area for June 4–5 is a "yellow flag" – swimming is allowed, but with increased caution, especially when storm clouds appear or there are stronger wind gusts.
Sofia and the region: more sun, but with afternoon storms in the mountains
In Sofia and the surrounding areas during Saturday and Sunday, the weather will be typically unstable for the beginning of June. Mornings will be mostly sunny, with broken clouds and temperatures around 14°–16°. During the day, the maximum values will reach 26°–29°, with the warmest weather in the Upper Thracian Plain and the southern parts of the country.
In the afternoon, the atmosphere over Western Bulgaria remains unstable enough for the development of cumulus and cumulonimbus clouds. Over the Sofia field, especially towards Vitosha, Lyulin, and the western parts, short showers and thunderstorms are possible, but the phenomena will be local and weaker compared to previous days with larger storms.
The wind will be light to moderate, most often from the southwest, and during thunderstorms, stronger gusts may occur in places. A "flag" assessment for swimming in Sofia does not apply, but it is recommended to avoid swimming in open water bodies during thunderstorms and not to stand in open areas during lightning.
Eastern and Western Bulgaria: warm, with sun before noon and afternoon showers
In Western Bulgaria (including the Sofia region, the Northwest, and the Southwest) on June 4–5, sunny weather will prevail until noon, and in the afternoon cumulus clouds will form with short showers and thunderstorms in many places – mainly over the mountains, the Fore-Balkan, and western regions. Maximum temperatures will be between 26° and 31°, with values up to around 32° in the warmer valleys.
In Eastern Bulgaria (Northeast, Southeast) the weather will be a bit calmer – more sun, and precipitation will be rarer and more isolated. Temperatures will range between 24° and 28°, with cooler conditions along the coast due to the influence of the sea.
The wind in both parts of the country will be light to moderate, mostly from the south-southwest in the interior and from the southeast towards the sea. For the interior of the country, the safety assessment for swimming applies to swimming in rivers and reservoirs: the recommendation is "yellow flag" – swim with caution and avoid being in the water during thunderstorms.
In the mountains: pleasant temperatures, but a high probability of afternoon storms
In the mountain regions over the weekend, the weather will be sunny during the pre-noon hours, with excellent conditions for early hikes. In the afternoon, however, the atmosphere will become destabilized and over the Rila, Pirin, Stara Planina, and Rhodope mountains, cumulonimbus clouds will develop, with short-lived showers and thunderstorms.
Maximum temperatures at about 1200 meters will be around 19°–21°, and at 2000 meters – around 12°–14°, which provides comfortable but unstable conditions. The wind will be light to moderate from the southwest, and may strengthen along the ridges.
For mountain lakes and water reservoirs, the swimming assessment remains "red flag" – swimming is not recommended due to the low water temperature, rapid changes in weather, and increased risk during thunderstorms. Tourists are advised to plan their hikes so that they are off the high parts of the mountains by the late afternoon.
The Black Sea coast: more sun, but with local afternoon showers
On the Black Sea coast during June 4–5, the weather will be generally pleasant for the beach. Before noon there will be more sun and light to variable cloudiness, and maximum air temperatures will range between 23° and 26°, with the southern coast potentially reaching up to 27°.
In the afternoon along the northern and parts of the central coast, short showers and thunderstorms are possible, but they will be more isolated and weaker compared to the stormy conditions of previous days. The seawater temperature along the coast will be around 19°–21°, and the sea state – slight to moderate, around 2 degrees.
Given the combination of relatively cool water, sunny weather in the morning, and local afternoon storms, the general safety assessment for swimming on the Black Sea coast for June 4–5 is "yellow flag" – swimming allowed, but with increased caution, following the instructions of lifeguards, and avoiding entering the sea during thunderstorms and strong wind.
