After a period of higher-than-usual atmospheric pressure, the synoptic situation in the country is changing. Over the next 24 hours, a cold atmospheric front is expected to pass through, bringing a significant change in the weather, with rain and thunderstorms. The atmospheric pressure, which has so far been higher than the monthly average, will remain without significant change, but this calm will be broken by the dynamic processes ahead.
FORECAST BY REGION: FROM WEST TO EAST
Cloudiness will begin to increase gradually, moving from west to east. During the night, the first rain showers will mainly affect the mountain areas of Western and Central Bulgaria. This will only be a precursor to more intense phenomena.
During the day, the storms will become more significant and spread to many places in the eastern half of the country. They will be accompanied by strong thunder, which can create a dangerous situation in open areas. At the same time, over the northwestern regions, the sky will begin to clear gradually in the afternoon. The clouds there will break and decrease, giving way to predominantly sunny weather.
The wind will be variable depending on the region. In most of the country, a moderate northwest wind will blow, while in Eastern Bulgaria a breeze from the east-southeast will be felt. This movement of air masses is a direct consequence of the approaching cold front. Maximum temperatures will be in a wider range, between 25° and 30°. For the capital Sofia, the temperature is expected to be around 25°, which is a noticeable drop compared to the hot days.
THE SITUATION IN THE MOUNTAINS AND ON THE BLACK SEA COAST
Lovers of the mountains should be especially careful. Cloudiness over the high parts will often be significant, with the formation of cumulus and cumulonimbus clouds. In many places, there will be short-lived but intense rain showers, accompanied by thunder. The wind there will be stronger, moderate to strong, from the west-northwest. The maximum temperature at an altitude of 1200 meters will reach about 18°, while at 2000 meters it will be about 12°, which makes the conditions harsher for tourism.

Unstable weather is also expected on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast. Cloudiness will be significant throughout the day, and in the afternoon, it will develop into cumulus and cumulonimbus clouds. Short-lived rain showers and thunderstorms are expected in many places along the coast. The waves at sea will be raised to 2-3 balls. Despite this, the temperature of the seawater remains pleasant, in the range of 25° to 26°, which allows for a beach trip before the onset of the storms. The maximum air temperatures along the coast will be between 24° and 27°.
