The Specialized Hospital in Burgas Organizes Open Doors Week to Combat Tuberculosis

The Specialized Hospital for Active Treatment of Pneumo-Phthisiatric Diseases in Burgas announces an Open Doors Week from March 23rd to 27th. The campaign is related to the marking of World Tuberculosis Day - March 24th, and aims to raise awareness of tuberculosis and to encourage efforts to curb the epidemic.

From 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. every day in the diagnostic and consultative block of the hospital, free activities for citizens will be held: tuberculosis risk screening (questionnaires), consultations with specialists, examinations and additional tests if necessary.

RZI Burgas emphasizes the key importance of such initiatives for early detection and control of tuberculosis. Timely diagnosis and awareness are essential.

The campaign is aimed at all citizens, especially those at risk. Tuberculosis, caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis (discovered by Robert Koch on March 24, 1882), remains among the leading causes of death in the world. With proper treatment, about 90% of those infected can be cured within six months.

Ending the epidemic by 2030 is among the UN's goals. Risk factors include smoking, alcohol, immunosuppression and malnutrition. People with HIV, diabetes, oncological diseases, as well as vulnerable groups (children, elderly people, residents of countries with high morbidity, living in poor living conditions) are also more at risk.
