Combating the budget deficit

The government is making maximum efforts to optimize state expenditures in order to contain the budget deficit, which currently remains above 3%. Prime Minister Rumen Radev emphasized that the current state of the treasury was "bequeathed by the previous administration".

"It is our ambition to further reduce this deficit in the 2027 budget. And we will do it," Radev stated categorically.

Sanctions and the excessive deficit procedure

Regarding the EC procedure against Bulgaria, Radev described it as standard practice for the EU. According to him, the 2027 budget will be a key argument for avoiding sanctions. The Prime Minister refused to accept criticism from political forces that, in his words, led the state to financial catastrophe.

The "Peevski" case and the Magnitsky Act

On the topic of Delyan Peevski's flights and the sanctions under the Magnitsky Act, Radev was categorical that Bulgaria's image is suffering:

• There has been a lack of compliance with the sanctions so far.
• Minister Demerdzhiev has evidence regarding the flights.
• Investigations are underway into who financed these flights and how.

The government promises full transparency on the case to clarify how image damage was inflicted on the country before the international community.
