The week from June 22 to 28 will feature typical early summer weather – warm days, relatively cool nights, and frequent afternoon cumulus clouds in the interior. In some areas, there will be brief rain and thunderstorms, but overall the weather will be favorable for travel, tourism, and the seaside. Along the coast, including near Burgas, a stable summer period is expected with pleasant sea water temperatures and mostly good swimming conditions.
Weather in Burgas and the region (June 22–28)
In the Burgas area, the entire week will be summery, without extreme heat. Morning minimum temperatures will hover around 18–20°C, and daytime maximums on most days will be in the 26–29°C range. It is expected to be warmest on Tuesday and Wednesday, when temperatures will reach 28–29°C, feeling slightly higher due to humidity.
In the period June 22–25, sunny weather will prevail over Burgas and the coast with scattered clouds in the afternoon. The probability of precipitation remains low – within 5–15%, with potential short showers more likely in the interior of the region than over the city itself and the beach strip. Towards the end of the period (June 26–28), a slight increase in cloudiness is possible in the afternoon with a small chance of local short rain, but without prolonged precipitation.
The wind near Burgas during the week will be light to moderate. On most days, it will blow from the east–northeast, with an average speed of about 3–6 m/s, while in the afternoon on open beaches, gusts of up to 7–8 m/s may be recorded. This will bring a refreshing breeze and protect against the feeling of stuffy heat.
The sea water temperature in the Bay of Burgas during the June 22–28 period is expected to be around 22–23°C, and by the end of the week, it may rise by about another degree with stable sunny weather. This is a comfortable range for swimming even for people more sensitive to cold water. The sea state will be slight – around 1–2 degrees for most of the week, with a slight increase to 2–3 degrees during temporarily stronger afternoon winds.
Given the expected conditions – stable weather, warm air, sea water around 22–23°C, and mostly slight waves – the preliminary assessment for the safety of swimming on Burgas beaches for the period June 22–28 is a green flag. Temporarily yellow flags are possible on individual days and hours with stronger wind or local currents, but overall the week is very suitable for the beach and seaside tourism.
Weather conditions in the country (June 22–28)
1. Sofia and region
In Sofia and surrounding areas, the week will be warm, with summer temperatures and typical June afternoon instability. Minimum temperatures will stay around 15–17°C, and daytime maximums will most often be in the 27–30°C range. At the beginning of the period (June 22–24), sunny weather will prevail until noon, with the development of cumulus clouds in the afternoon.
From Tuesday to Thursday, the probability of brief rain and thunderstorms in the afternoon is moderate – about 30–40%, mainly over the mountains around Sofia and the western part of the Sofia field. For the rest of the day, sunny weather will prevail. The wind will be light, mainly from the west–northwest, with speeds around 2–4 m/s. At the end of the period (June 27–28), a slight decrease in temperatures by 1–2 degrees is expected, but the weather remains mostly warm and pleasant.
2. Eastern and Western Bulgaria
In Western Bulgaria (Northwest, Southwest, and central western regions), the weather will be dynamic, but mostly warm. In the first half of the week, maximums will be between 28 and 31°C, with possible brief afternoon storms, especially around mountain ranges. The probability of precipitation in these areas will be higher – about 40–50% on some days, but the rain will be short and in isolated locations.
In Eastern Bulgaria (Plovdiv, Stara Zagora, Sliven, Yambol, Shumen, Razgrad, Dobrich), the week will be more stable. Maximum temperatures there will most often be in the 29–32°C range, and rain will be rarer and local. The probability of rain on most days will be around 10–20%, with short afternoon showers being more likely around the Balkan Mountains and the Rhodopes than in the plains.
Throughout the country, one should keep in mind the strong June sun – the UV index will be high to very high in the noon hours. During travel and outdoor activities, hats, sunglasses, and sunscreen are recommended.
3. Weather in the mountains
In the mountains, the week will offer good conditions for tourism in the morning and before noon, but with an increased risk of afternoon storms. At about 1200 m altitude, maximum temperatures will be around 18–21°C, and at about 2000 m – around 11–14°C. Mornings will be mostly sunny and clear.
In the afternoon, especially in the days between June 23 and 26, cumulus-rain clouds will develop over the Rila, Pirin, Balkan Mountains, and parts of the Rhodopes, with a probability of brief, and in places more intense, rain with thunderstorms – about 50–60%. The wind on the ridges will be moderate, from the north or northwest, with speeds around 5–8 m/s, with gusts up to 10–12 m/s in the highest open parts.
Due to the risk of storms and rapid weather changes in the afternoon hours, it is recommended to plan longer hikes for the morning, and to avoid swimming in mountain lakes due to low water temperatures and the danger of rapid body cooling.
4. Black Sea coast
Along the Bulgarian Black Sea coast – from Shabla to Tsarevo – the week of June 22–28 will be very favorable for seaside tourism. In the northern part (Varna, Balchik, Kavarna area), maximum air temperatures will be around 26–29°C, and minimums – around 18–19°C. In the southern part, including the area of Burgas, Nessebar, Sozopol, Primorsko, and Tsarevo, daytime values will be in the 27–30°C range, with night temperatures around 19–21°C.
The sea water temperature will stay around 21–23°C on the northern coast and around 22–23°C on the southern. Waves will be slight – around 1–2 degrees for most of the week, with a slight increase to 2–3 degrees on individual afternoons with a stronger east wind. The wind along the coast will be light to moderate from the east–northeast, with speeds around 4–7 m/s, with possible gusts up to 8–9 m/s on more open beaches and headlands.
The probability of rain along the Black Sea coast during the period remains low – usually around 10–20%. Brief local showers and thunderstorms are possible mainly in the afternoon hours on some days, more likely over the interior than over the beaches themselves. In general, conditions for swimming along the coast, including in the Burgas area, can be assessed as predominantly green flag for the week, with separate short periods of a yellow flag during higher waves or local currents.
Tourists are advised to follow the beach signage and lifeguard instructions, especially during hours with stronger wind and higher wave backgrounds, and to protect themselves from the strong sun in the middle of the day.
