The Macedonian opposition party SDSM issued a sharp statement attacking the positions of Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski and the ruling VMRO-DPMNE regarding NATO and the country's Euro-Atlantic orientation.
According to SDSM, Mickoski speaks about improving cooperation with NATO, even though he and his party previously opposed Macedonia's membership in the Alliance. They claim that it was their formation that played a key role in the accession process to NATO and in establishing the Euro-Atlantic course.
The party statement recalls that Foreign Minister Timcho Mucunski, during a visit to Brussels, stated that NATO is a "phenomenal thing" because, in addition to security for citizens, it creates security for foreign investors as well.
SDSM emphasizes that important state decisions related to NATO membership and Macedonia's Euro-Atlantic orientation were taken precisely by their administration, and evaluates these steps as necessary for the future of the country.
In its reaction, the opposition accuses the VMRO-DPMNE government of distancing Macedonia from European integration, as well as that the implemented policies have led to a decrease in foreign investment, an increase in corruption, and the protection of crime.

"Mickoski praises NATO today, but his policy keeps Macedonia far from European and Euro-Atlantic structures. This is not statesmanship, but hypocrisy and a conscious destruction of Macedonia's perspective," SDSM states in its position.
