Officials will set up a coordination centre to handle any problems that come up during the elections for the new Supreme Judicial Council, says Alexander Arabadzhiyski, chief commissioner and director of the General Directorate for Security.

The directorate discussed its tasks for the upcoming elections of Supreme Judicial Council members from the professional quotas at a working meeting with deputy justice minister Stanimir Stanev, the justice ministry said.

Stanev said the election rules being used this time are new, so the process needs careful planning — from moving the ballots and voting materials to securing the whole operation. "We're putting all our resources into making sure this vote is open and fair," he said.

The Supreme Judicial Council's plenum meets this week to discuss adding new points to the guidelines on how the elections are organised and run. Once the plenum decides, the General Directorate for Security will send its regional units specific instructions.

So far the Judges' College has unanimously approved 18 candidates for the judges' quota. On September 10 the Prosecutors' College unanimously approved 17 candidates for the prosecutors' quota.
