Judges have elected their six representatives on the new Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) at a general assembly. Biser Troyanov, a Supreme Court of Cassation judge who chairs the Election Commission, announced the results.

Turnout was 84.18%, higher than on 7 November, when none of the 21 candidates won enough votes.

The judges' quota will be filled by Maria Terziyska, deputy head of the Varna Regional Court, and Daniela Aleksandrova, deputy head of the Sofia District Court. Svetlana Kalinova and Emilia Vasileva, both judges at the Supreme Court of Cassation, were also elected, as was Vasil Petkov of the Military Court of Appeals. The sixth is Veselka Zlateva-Kozhuharova, administrative head of the Administrative Court in Pazardzhik.

In all, 2,275 judges were entitled to vote. They used paper ballots at 30 polling stations around Bulgaria, as many as there are regional courts, in the same cities.

The SJC has four quotas: the National Assembly, the judges, the prosecutors and the investigators. Prosecutors have already chosen their representatives at a general assembly, after two rounds of voting.

Parliament must elect 11 members of the council: six for the judges' panel and five for the prosecutors' panel. Hearings for candidates in the parliamentary quota ended on Thursday, 5 November.

On 7 November in Burgas, 120 judges from the city and region voted at polling station No. 2 in the Courthouse. The city had one candidate.

Investigators have yet to hold hearings for their candidates and choose their representative on the council.
