Passenger traffic growth: Varna and Burgas airports see a 15.8% increase

Successful start to the year for Fraport

The German airport operator Fraport, which manages the airports in Varna and Burgas, reported revenue growth in the first quarter of 2026. Despite a challenging external environment, including the war against Iran and strike actions by Lufthansa employees, the company shows stable financial results.

"We are maintaining our forecast for the full year 2026, based in particular on the statements of the German government regarding the current security of kerosene supplies," said CEO Stefan Schulte.

Key indicators:

• Revenue grew by 1.6% to 882 million euros.
• Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) increased by over 10% to 196 million euros.
• Total passenger traffic across the group grew by 2.3% to 12.7 million passengers.

The Bulgarian seaside airports in Varna and Burgas marked significant success with a total passenger growth of 15.8% year-on-year. The company maintains its positive outlook for the year, expecting an operating profit of approximately 1.5 billion euros.
