Burgas regional prosecutors have charged the mayors of Belitsa and Sungurlare with influence peddling. A third man is also charged. The charges were filed today, 22 October 2026.

The third man is Kh. Sh. He is already under house arrest in another case.

Investigators say the three agreed the scheme in Sungurlare municipality in early 2024. They say it ran undisturbed for more than two years, until 20 October 2026.

Prosecutors will ask the court for the toughest preventive measure, detention in custody, for both mayors.
