Burgas regional court will hear a request from prosecutors tomorrow at 1pm to put Tsvetan Mirchev, the former chief executive of the Burgas water utility, in custody. He is now under house arrest, ordered by the same court. Custody is the toughest preventive measure.

Prosecutors say new evidence shows Mirchev influenced a witness in the case.

Mirchev is charged with taking part in an organised criminal group at the water company. Prosecutors say the group was set up for profit and operated from February 2024 until mid-July this year. They say it committed crimes in office, influence peddling and coercion.

Updated (08.10, 16:11): Burgas District Prosecutor's Office says the group was active from February 2024 to 14 July 2026, not until mid-July as first reported. The Burgas District Court hearing is set for 9 October at 1pm.
