Sofia, Bulgaria. After a brief summer break, an atmospheric front is once again approaching the country, which will bring a sharp change in the weather. The coming days will be marked by dynamic meteorological conditions, with forecasters warning of the danger of intense rainfall and thunderstorms.
Today, the country will enjoy sunshine for the first half of the day. Maximum temperatures will reach between 31° and 36°, and in the capital Sofia it will be around 33°. This idyll, however, will be short-lived, as cumulonimbus clouds will begin to develop from the west after noon. The atmospheric pressure will decrease, remaining lower than the average for the month.
The expectation is that in the evening and during the night toward Sunday, the western half of Bulgaria will be affected by intense, short-term rainfall, accompanied in some places by thunderstorms. Conditions for hailstorms are also being created. The wind will be light to moderate, with an east-southeasterly direction.
Forecast for the Black Sea coast and the mountains
Along the Bulgarian Black Sea coast, the day will be sunny, and the temperature of the seawater will remain between 24° and 25°. A moderate southeasterly wind will blow, and the maximum temperatures along the coast will be in the range of 26°–29°. The sea swell will be 2-3 points.
In the mountains, today will also be predominantly sunny, which will create ideal conditions for morning hikes. In the afternoon, however, the cloudiness will increase, and in the evening, short-term rainfall and thunderstorms are expected in the massif of Western Bulgaria. The wind will be moderate, from the south-southwest. The temperature at an altitude of 1200 meters will reach about 28°, and at 2000 meters – about 20°.
Weather deterioration during the weekend
On Sunday, the situation will worsen, as a passing cold atmospheric front will bring rain and thunderstorms to many places in the country. There is an increased probability of more intense and significant rainfall in Central Bulgaria, where hailstorms are also possible. The wind will change its direction to west-northwest and will temporarily intensify, which will lead to a noticeable decrease in daily temperatures, especially in Central North Bulgaria.
