Pomorie: Emergency Meeting Due to Meteorological Forecasts

The Municipal Council in Pomorie will convene an extraordinary session, summoned due to the alarming meteorological forecasts for the upcoming period from October 2nd to 5th. This was officially announced by the Municipality's press center, sending a signal for increased vigilance among residents.

According to the current forecast of the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH), the region is preparing to face the intrusion of a cold atmospheric front, which will bring with it significant rainfall and strong winds. The atmosphere in the city seems permeated with a premonition of the upcoming challenge.

In the event of critical situations, the Municipality of Pomorie has assured that the leadership and coordination of rescue efforts will be carried out by a previously established headquarters. This is part of the overall preparation for dealing with potential disasters, in order to ensure maximum protection for residents.

NIMH assessments paint a picture of worsening conditions. The amount of rainfall is expected to reach up to 35 mm in 24 hours, and in some places intense rains are predicted, reaching 30 mm in 6 hours. In addition, wind gusts are expected, which can reach up to 24 m/s (90 km/h).

In response to these serious forecasts, the Municipality of Pomorie has already taken a number of preventive measures aimed at reducing the risk of disaster situations. A regular meeting of the Municipal Council for Disaster Risk Reduction (MCDRR) was held, and today, from 5:00 PM, an extraordinary meeting of the council for additional coordination is scheduled. The tension is palpable. The weather seems to be holding its breath.

"We have taken the necessary actions for prevention – riverbeds, ravines and drainage ditches along the road network are being checked. The reservoirs on the territory of the municipality are also being monitored, and concessionaires and tenants have been instructed to regulate water levels," said the mayor of Pomorie, Ivan Aleksiev, quoted by the press center. He appealed to citizens to be careful, to secure their terraces and windows, and to follow official information. Those present in the square watched, with slight concern in their eyes, as employees began checks of the main facilities.

We remind you that in April this year, a strong hurricane wind caused significant damage, bringing down a construction crane at the fishing port in Pomorie. The facility, which reached a height of about 50 meters, fell on boats, causing serious material losses. Several vessels on land were completely destroyed, and others, located in the water, sank.
