Pomorie and Karlovo Exchange Experience in Management and Waste

Today, the city of Pomorie hosted a visit that highlights the desire to share experience and improve urban governance. A delegation from the Municipality of Karlovo, consisting of municipal councilors and administrative staff, arrived in the seaside town for a meeting with representatives of the local authorities. The group was headed by the Chairman of the Municipal Council - Karlovo, Donyo Todorov.

The main focus of the visit was the exchange of knowledge and experience, with the guests from Karlovo showing particular interest in two key aspects of governance in Pomorie. The first was the new method for collecting household waste, applied in the "Svoboda" quarter. The second, no less important, turned out to be the organization of parking in the city, arousing lively interest from the guests.

The deputy mayors of Pomorie, Yancho Iliev and Kuncho Gaydov, presented in detail the experience accumulated over the years. They explained the difficulties that accompanied the introduction of the parking system and the waste collection scheme "door-to-door". The goal of the latter is to implement the principle of "pay as you throw", striving for more efficient and fair waste management.

For nearly two hours, over thirty people actively participated in the discussion. They asked questions, discussed specific examples and made suggestions related to the introduced parking zones and the established order in Pomorie. The project "Holistic approach to waste management in the transition to a circular economy", co-financed by the LIFE program of the European Union, also aroused serious interest and was the subject of detailed discussion. Specialists on the individual topics answered the questions of the delegates, providing additional information and clarifications.

"We are here to share your experience, because you have a comprehensive system that works in terms of parking. Pomorie is a resort center, which we are trying to turn Karlovo into as well. The rhetoric on household waste fees is also on the agenda and it is a matter of time before changes occur. The fact that you are also working in this direction also means that there is something to learn from you", shared the Chairman of the Municipal Council - Karlovo, Donyo Todorov, emphasizing the hope for future cooperation between the two municipalities. It seemed that the meeting had laid the foundations for future joint initiatives aimed at improving the governance of the two cities and improving the quality of life of their residents.
