The road situation in the country remains alarming, after Bulgaria registered a series of serious incidents in the last 24 hours. Data published on the official website of the Ministry of Interior (MoI) paints a grim picture of road safety, with one person losing their life and dozens of others injured.
A total of 20 serious road traffic accidents occurred during the 24-hour period. As a result of these incidents, one road user died and 28 others were injured, some of whom were hospitalized with various injuries. This statistic highlights the constant risk faced by travelers on Bulgarian roads, although details of the circumstances of the individual accidents are not reported.
The Road Situation in the Capital
The situation in the capital was no less tense. According to data from the Sofia Directorate of the Interior (SDVR), the city was the scene of two serious and 22 minor accidents in the last 24 hours. As a result of these incidents, three people were injured. The frequent sound of sirens and the gathering of police crews and ambulances on the main boulevards of Sofia reminded citizens of the dire consequences of not following traffic rules.
Grim Statistics from the Beginning of the Month and the Year
An analysis of the data for a longer period shows a stable, albeit slightly improved, trend. Since the beginning of the current month, road incidents have claimed the lives of 41 people across the country. The injured for this period have reached the alarming figure of 834 people, and the total number of registered accidents amounts to 632.
Since the beginning of the year to date, the MoI_q_s road statistics report a total of 227 fatalities in 4418 road traffic accidents, with 5561 injured. These figures show how many lives are affected by the chaos on the roads.

Compared to the previous year, a slight improvement is observed. The MoI notes that during the same period in 2024, 294 people died. This means that in 2025, there were 17 fewer road victims, which is an encouraging, albeit small, sign of progress in road safety. Nevertheless, every lost soul remains a tragedy that underscores the need for continuous efforts to improve road infrastructure and comply with traffic rules.
