Parliament has dismissed Plamen Tonchev from the Dossier Commission

The National Assembly has officially terminated the powers of Plamen Tonchev as Chairman of the Commission for Disclosing Documents and Announcing Affiliation of Bulgarian Citizens with the State Security and the Intelligence Services of the Bulgarian People's Army (the so-called Dossier Commission). The decision was adopted with 144 votes "for", 8 "against", and 1 "abstention".

The request for early dismissal was submitted by Plamen Tonchev himself following his election as Chairman of SANS.

Tonchev was elected Chairman of the State Agency for National Security (SANS) two days ago. He was the sole candidate nominated by the Council of Ministers. During the hearing in the relevant parliamentary committee, he denied that any pressure had been exerted upon him:

• "I am a proposal by the Council of Ministers; I am not applying for the position," Tonchev commented.
• "Apparently, the country's leadership has decided that I am still needed at SANS," he added.

We remind you that Plamen Tonchev has previously held the post of Chairman of SANS in the period 2021-2025, and only a few months ago he took over the leadership of the Dossier Commission.
