Arson near Sozopol: intentional fire next to "Santa Marina"

Firefighting teams responded to a report of an arson near Sozopol, in the immediate vicinity of the popular holiday complex "Santa Marina." The incident, which is under investigation for arson, caused serious tension and temporarily blocked an important road in the area.

What happened?

The fire report was filed on August 2 at around 11:30 a.m. at the Sozopol Regional Police Department. According to initial reports, the flames engulfed extensive grassy areas located west of the complex. The sight of the rapidly spreading fire was alarming, which necessitated the urgent mobilization of significant forces. Four fire trucks were immediately dispatched to the scene, supported by ten firefighters, who began an intensive battle with the flames. Employees of the local police department also joined them and assisted in bringing the situation under control.

Consequences of the incident

One of the main effects of the incident was the closure of the internal road that connects the "Lidl" hypermarket with the intersection of the Primorsko – Burgas road. This measure was taken to ensure the safety of passers-by and to provide unimpeded access for the rescue teams to the fire sources. The atmosphere may have been filled with smoke and anxiety as the teams worked under the scorching sun.

Despite the seriousness of the situation, the fire was extinguished in a timely manner before it could cause even greater damage. During the inspection, however, it was revealed that the fire was not accidental. The investigating authorities found that it was an intentional arson, organized through six separate ignition points that were set on the right side of the road. This fact raises serious questions about the motives for the crime and the potential risk to which the surrounding properties and nature were exposed.

As a result of the arson, trees and grassy areas were burned, with the exact area of the destroyed vegetation still being clarified. A pre-trial investigation has been initiated into the case, which will investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and will try to uncover the perpetrators of this act of vandalism.
